i am now overlord of this community. [Friday, September 24th, 2010 @ 6:30pm]

supercarrot
:-) so hopefully no more spam. (if anyone even still watches this community. shout out?)

as of today, new members will be put on moderated submission. (all existing members are free to post as non-criminals. n00bs, please save both of our collective time and don't post ads and referrals. k?)

seeing as this is an extremely rarely posted-to community, i doubt there would be a problem with the moderation for n00bs.

now on to the meat (get it?) of the post:

anyone looking for makeup advice, there is a separate community for makeup. veganmakeup

looking for cooking advice? yeah, there's one for that too. vegancooking (read the guidelines on the info page, as that community is very structured. like a cookbook.) have just a photo and don't want to talk about how you made it or maybe it's from a restaurant? yep. you got it, veganfoodpics

everything else: veganpeople or veganism (they both have very different vibes. veganism is made up mostly of the newer vegans, and veganpeople is made up mostly of the experienced vegans. there is also a stronger animal rights vibe to veganpeople if that's your thing.)

visit the information pages of vegpromo and vegantravel for gigantoid lists of all of the vegan communities on livejournal. (vegantravel for a list of all regional communities, and promo for all other.)

thanks, and we now resume with your community in progress.

Help keep a goth sweet-smelling! [Friday, November 16th, 2007 @ 7:48pm]

I guess this is mostly a question for England-based community members: can anyone recommend a cruelty-free (at least non-animal-tested and vegetarian, preferably vegan - also preferably an antiperspirant) that doesn't leave white marks on black clothes?

New here... [Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 @ 12:40pm]

I'm curious as to why so many high-end fashion designers will use faux leather or suede and real fur.

For those of you who are thus inclined:

Petition for the replacement of animal experiments in the EU

The European legislation governing EU animal experiments (Directive 86/609/EEC), is now some 20 years old, desperately out of date and in urgent need of review. The European Commission has recognised this and a review is now underway. The Commission has also launched an 'Action Plan' that explicitly states "The final aim is to replace animal experiments with methods not entailing the use of an animal."

New vegan knitting comm [Friday, August 17th, 2007 @ 8:14pm]

nelsolidarida
I'm being a bit cheeky here and hoping that making your own clothes comes under the heading of fashion!

Anyway, from this afternoon vegan_knitters now kind of exists (in that the account is set up but no-one has joined and i haven't prettied the place up yet). So if you are interested in discussing/finding out about/showing off non-animal knitting materials, come along and become one of the first few members!

Shoes and Bags [Sunday, February 4th, 2007 @ 12:47pm]
auburnsiren
Steve Madden has a line of shoes called SM New York, which is all manmade. Alternative Outfitters carries a few styles. Google SM New York and you'll get quite a few hits. There are some very cute styles including Louboutin-style knockoffs, which I purchased. They look good and seem fairly well-made. If you buy them from Zappos, understand that they don't have it entirely together as far as veg and non-veg shoes go. They don't list any SM New York styles in their veg section, but trust me...they are veg. Zappos and 2 or 3 other online shoe merchants have free shipping and free return shipping.

A line of vegan designer handbags designed and constructed in Seattle: http://crystalynkae.com/. I bought the Monarch Hobo and it is VERY good quality, a bag I will have for a long time.

Though from a previous Matt & Nat collection, the Boston bag can be found on Ebay fairly easily. It is a similar style to those I've seen in several fashion magazines lately for Spring.

Hello neighbors.

I hope this post is okay. I just really need some help.

I am conducting a survey in an effort to get my mom to get rid of some of her clothes.

They are taking over the garage and you can hardly walk in her room. If I have proof that it's not normal, and she doesn't NEED to have a turtle neck of every color and print, it would be VERY helpful.

So, I think this COULD be fun... I'd like the ladies to maybe count how many clothing articles they have and how many pairs of shoes. If you want to be specific (certain number of tops/bottoms/dresses, or even go into tank tops, short sleeve, shorts, skirts etc) that would be awesome, but you don't have to. Heck you could even do belts of you want.. she's got too many of those as well!

Thank you so very much, you have no idea how helpful this will be!

Also, if you have any advice of things to say to her when she's trying to buy something ugly and pointless, I'd love it. I am trying to play the whole "but these flip flops aren't even nice, you have such nicer ones already, why not wear the nice ones?".. she's not getting it though :o(

Thanks Thanks Thanks!

Petition on Heather Mills McCartney's site

Quote from the site page:
"Thank you for taking the time to sign our Dog & Cat Fur Petition to EU Commissioner, Markos Kyprianou urging him to implement a ban on the trade of dog and cat fur from Asia to Europe. It is important that the Commission receives letters and signatures from as many EU member states as possible to demonstrate that outrage against this barbaric trade is strong throughout the European Union. Please ask your European friends to sign our petition and to write to their own Ministers calling for a ban in their particular country as well as the EU."

This cuff was just designed over at the Ex-Boyfriend studio. It's ironic veg humor and features a "murderlicious" raw meat collage. The cuff is made from a recycled water bottle for extra eco-friendly goodness. You can check out the cuff here.

hey, i thought the members of ths community might be interested in a new jewelry site called 4smallchange.com.
This collage has a just a sample of the different colors and styles of available beaded bracelets.

4 Small Change offers handmade Fair Trade jewelry created by Mayan women living on the shores of Lake Atitlán, a spectacular volcanic lake in Guatemala. 4 small change has assisted in the organization of a beading collective for the women in the village of Santa Cruz la Laguna, which is 97% Indigenous. Vegan Makeup news [Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 @ 6:16am]

secretagentglam
Just got this in my email an I am overjoyed....... Urbandecay.com is now vegan friendly. They have a purple pawprint symbol by all of their vegan products. "Urban Decay is, and has always been, a cruelty-free company. You'll notice that every box bears our cruelty-free credo: 'We don't do animal testing. How could anyone?'. We're happy to announce that UrbanDecay now has a "Marley Approved Symbol to identify vegan products on our website. If you see Marley's purple paw print next to a product, Urban Decay Certifies that it is a vegan product. We hope this will make shopping easier and more fun for our vegan friends." I took a quick gander and was surprised that many of their eyeshadows, lipglosses and eyeliner pencils are vegan. They also have a new foundation out which is a mineral powder (kinda like bare essencials) and all of those are vegan.

Speaking of Bare Essencials, according to a few websites that entire line is vegan and non-animal tested also. I know the infomercials can be kinda scary, but if you have a Sephora in your area go in and check out the B/E eyeshadows. They've got a lot of awesome colors and many of their shadows are very shimmery and bright.

vegan weddings...soy fabrics... [Tuesday, January 10th, 2006 @ 2:17pm]

spiderwebbeauty
I just saw a picture of Alicia Silverstone's vegan and eco-friendly wedding in the 'People' magazine that my neighbor gives me. She had organic beeswax candles. I guess in LA organic beeswax in vegan? Is it? I'll have to find an article about the practice. Why not use Soy candles, Alicia>>??

p.s. Did anyone see CSI MIAMI last night? One of the suspects had a soy shirt! They analyzed the soy fibers to show the difference in this plant's fibers. I really want to see what soy shirt are like! In Target they are now selling Bamboo sheets... I guess plant fabrics will be more prevalent now.
Good...I hope they replace silk and wool. and polyester!
